Born in Eastern Nepal beneath Mount Everest, Chef Hari Ram Soni learned the art of spice blending from his housewife mother, who crafted flavors from raw ingredients in their small-town kitchen. Immersed in Nepal’s diverse cooking cultures—from Newari to Tibetan influences—Hari gained deep knowledge of local spices and their profiles.
Starting his professional career in 2006, he mastered South Asian cuisines (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Nepali) alongside Italian, Thai, and Chinese techniques. This multicultural expertise allows him to create innovative, inclusive dishes for all dietary needs—vegan, gluten-free, Jain-friendly, and more.
In 2012, his wife Mamata joined him, blending family tradition with professional precision. Since opening Spice Mix Restaurant in Melbourne’s Brunswick East in 2018, Hari’s philosophy shines: fresh, house-blended spices for meals worthy of family. From mountain roots to global fusion, he bridges cultures through flavorful, accessible dining.
